About Edelweiss
Your Hosts
Dave & Wendy are your hosts. They met in England in 1986 where Dave was stationed with the US Air Force. Dave’s first duty assignment as a young Airmen was to Hill AFB in Utah and he fell in love with the Northern Wasatch mountains and the outdoor lifestyle Utah is famous for. After serving in the USAF for 21 years, the couple retired in Panama City, Florida and travelled extensively with their three children around the globe, including frequent visits to Utah and the Ogden Valley to ski in the winter, and to enjoy the abundant summer outdoor activities. They love the elevated outdoor lifestyle in Utah – the mountains, hiking, skiing, biking, kayaking - and the beauty and solitude of the Valley. After their youngest graduated from college, the Hodgsons looked for property in Eden - one of their favorite locations in all of Utah – and found Edelweiss.
Edelweiss
Our home was built by Max Bierwolf in 1978. He had envisioned a European style lodge with separate owner’s accommodations. Max built the home mostly by himself with very little help from anyone. Unfortunately, Max passed before he could finish Edelweiss and the home sat vacant and unfinished for some 10 years. The house fell into disrepair and was deemed by most contractors to be un-salvageable. In 2013, Chuck & Deanne James purchased Edelweiss and spent 6 years rebuilding and restoring the entire home in a Swiss Chalet style - realizing Max’s dream to turn it into a ski lodge. They are now retired and enjoying spending time with their 6 children and 10 grandchildren.
